luckily I don't use a lot of desk space

home sweet home

I tried setting up a fake photo of a makeshift desk piled with drawings, paper, and pencils precariously propped across a full bathtub (Marat style), but I was wasting too much time... so here's my actual workspace.

Where the magic happens...

I really love seeing other artists' workspaces. Here's mine- hope you'll post yours as well.

Kimya Dawson

"Kimya Dawson," The New Yorker, April 7, 2008

Here's a portrait of Kimya Dawson done for the New Yorker (plus some of the color variations I went through to get to the final). I was pretty excited to get this assignment because I like the Moldy Peaches. It's nice they're getting some recognition (albeit post-breakup, er, "hiatus"). Listen to Kimya's solo work here.

You can read Sasha Frere-Jones' Critics Notebook piece on Acrassicauda here and watch the trailer for "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" here.
Below are some unused sketches for the illustration.

Howdy folks,

Here are a few I just finished this week. My first spot for GQ and three half pagers for Best Life about how to be a better dad.

Also, I have an awesome 6 page feature in ESPN this week, a comic!!! if you don't pick it up or at least check it out on my site I will shank you.

The Madness of the Upper Class

"The Madness of the Upper Class," The L Magazine, March 19-25, 2008

The Money Issue of the L Magazine hits stands today! I was asked to illustrate a story about renting a room in a decaying upper east side penthouse. The climax of the story comes with the narrator and a relative of the owners discovering a bottle of 19th century port stashed behind the wainscoting.
You can read the story here.

I Come In Peace

What a lovely time to get this up and running! Way to go guys. You get gold stars for thinkin'.

welcome friend (or foe)

we have arrived! after months and months and months of discussing how much fun and awesome it would be to have a blog where we could all show together and hopefully, by default, be inspired to push one another to our limits, we've finally gotten it together. sort of like back in art school when seeing your work up on the wall with everyone else made you want to try that much harder and gave you a bit of vital perspective to boot. so there you have it. welcome friend or foe is on.
hope you'll come visit once in awhile and cheer us on!
all the best-
the gang
