Robert Sikoryak
I ran into Bob Sikoryak at the Strand on Sunday. Emily, Ilana, Drew and I met him when Chang Park had us speak at Parsons. Bob was checking out the graphic novel section while he was taking a break from working on his book. Drawn & Quarterly is putting out a collection of his Masterpiece Comics next year. He's currently featured in “An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, Cartoons, & True Stories, Volume 2.”

the making of a pizza cookie

last year it was the burger cake for jashar's b-day. this year, pizza cookie! emily, jed & i spent the entire afternoon yesterday cutting out marshmellow pepperoni, onions, peppers and mushrooms....looks a bit like play doh pizza but nevertheless well worth it i'd say!
The Oedipus Cycle
A couple of weeks ago, The New Yorker sent me to see The Oedipus Cycle at the Pearl Theatre. I attempted some life drawing during the play, but the theater was too dark to draw anything coherent. Fortunately, there was time during the intermissions to sketch out thumbnails. It was a great show- I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

David Stone Martin

On my other blog (no, not that one... the other one), I'm always saying that "Today's Inspiration"- a blog about old school illustration- really lives up to it's name.
Check out their entries on David Stone Martin-
Modernism meets Traditionalism
Early Days
For the Record
"...unusual pictures, vitalized by many strange textures"
"Bending a wire"
His line quality is similar to Ben Shahn and Andy Warhol's illustrations.
Check out a full gallery of Martin's work here.

We want Plu-to! We want Plu-to!
I have very fond memories of watching this video when I was a kid. I had the one where the narrator was a magic mirror, this one is just a lame talking pumpkin but I think the videos are the same. When Pluto goes to cats court in part three is a classic.
