Heinz Edelmann (1934-2009)

Heinz Edelmann, art director and character designer for "Yellow Submarine," died on Tuesday in Stuttgart, Germany. He was 75.

Ah, it's been a while...

Upon packing for my upcoming move, I found this T2 card, funny stuff. I never made it to see the new movie but I wish the original John Connor (Eddie Furlong) would be in it :)

How I spent my summer Vacation . . .

Les Éphémères

"Les Éphémères" is one of the plays being performed at this year's Lincoln Center Festival.

From the press release:

Over six hours long, in two parts which may be seen separately or on the same day, Les Éphémères is a departure from [Le Théâtre du Soleil’s] traditional focus on socio-political or historical themes. In the words of the director [Ariane Mnouchkine], it is an “an examination of everyday life through the prism of the family, especially, the mother. Out of the ordinariness emerges an abyss of complexity, suffering, the questions we never asked our parents...the ephemeral character of what we are.”

Northside Festival!

The Northside Festival is going on this weekend. It was pretty fun seeing all the usages all over Williamsburg, and a fun festival!

I need a long regular bed and a feather pillow for my head.

I recently found out one of my favorite song by The Fall was a cover of this.

Just for me . . .

This is a 15" x 23" gouache and watercolor "St.George slaying the Dragon"/work in progress Im finally getting a chance to work on. It sat in pencils for three months on my desk, taunting me. Maybe one of the benefits of the economic downturn is actually getting to do something for myself!

Beekeeper + New Web Store

Crazy, my first web only commission. I sent in a lo-res jpg and then that was it! A little anticlimactic? A little taste of the future of illustration? Fortunately I can attest that the rates were not only on par with print rates but actually a little higher than what this particular client had paid in the past. Phew! Certainly a little disappointing not to have a printed version to look forward to but ultimately - no complaints here.
The story was about an NYC man who is advocating for rooftop bee colonies. Crucial to the eco system he says and likely correct. You can read the article HERE.

On another note! I've decided to give Big Cartel a whirl. I'm convinced people feel more comfortable purchasing in a way that feels more official as opposed to simply emailing me....I'm using the free version right now which only lets you load up five items at a time so my apologies for the scant offerings. I've got a handful of my small flea market paintings up, all going for $40 a pop (Yay! Affordable art!).
